I built The Alchemist. because I couldn't find an Australian functional wellness site I trusted. I test every product I recommend. If I haven't used it for at least four weeks, I won't write about it.

Why I started this.

After leaving the Navy I spent a lot of money on functional wellness supplements that didn't do what they claimed. I wasn't being naive — I was reading reviews and trusting the sources I found. The problem was that most of those reviews were written by people who'd never read a Certificate of Analysis, didn't know what beta-glucan content meant, and were earning commission from the products they recommended regardless of how they ranked them.

The Alchemist. is what I wanted to exist but couldn't find: an Australian site that applied a fixed, disclosed scoring rubric to every product, bought everything at retail, disclosed its affiliate relationships clearly, and was willing to say when a popular product didn't clear the bar.

"If I can't verify the claim, I don't repeat it. If I haven't taken it for four weeks, I don't score it."

My approach to reviewing.

Every product I review is purchased through an Australian retailer or shipped to an Australian address. I test for a minimum of four weeks, logging daily notes on effects, taste, mixability, and any changes I notice. I also request a Certificate of Analysis from every brand and document whether they provide one — and what it shows. Products that refuse to provide documentation receive a transparency penalty in the scoring rubric.

I also run Clean and Native, an Australian environmental health site that applies the same evidence-first editorial approach to EMF, air quality, and water filtration. You can read my work there too.

What I cover on The Alchemist.

Six pillars: mushroom coffee, adaptogens, collagen supplements, tallow skincare, functional tea, and brew gear. I chose these because they're the categories where marketing consistently outpaces evidence — and where an informed buyer can make a materially better decision with the right information.
